Hello there! And welcome to this week’s edition of The Game Business Micro, our subscriber-only run through and analysis of the big stories from the previous week.

You may have noticed… no video this week. I know, it’s outrageous. It’s because I’m travelling around, including to LA for The Game Awards.

Nevertheless, we still have a delightful text-only version for you to digest. And it’s a big one, including the rise of a new console competitor, and Warner Bros Games getting acquired by Netflix.

Let’s dive in!

NEX Playground reminds us of the importance of living room-based gaming

In Brief: Over Black Friday week in the US, the NEX Playground accounted for 14% of all console sales, ahead of the Xbox Series S and X. According to Circana, the family-focused camera-based video game system was behind Nintendo Switch 2 (24% of sales) and the PS5 (47% of sales). In the UK, PS5 accounted for 62% of sales, followed by Switch 2 (23%) and Xbox (10%), according to NielsenIQ. NEX Playground is unavailable in the UK currently.
