PS5, EA Sports FC 26 and Hogwarts Legacy come out top during Europe’s Black Friday
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 slips to No.3
There wasn’t a single new release in the European Top 20 last week, but there was a surge in sales across the board due to the Black Friday sales week.
Interestingly, there were not a lot of different games in the Top 20. EA Sports FC 26 holds the No.1 spot, while Hogwarts Legacy saw a big boost in sales, rising two places to No.2. The Harry Potter spin-off knocked down Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to No.3 and Battlefield 6 to No.4. The only game in the entire Top 20 to drop in sales was Call of Duty, which is understandable as it only released three weeks ago.

So not much to report in terms of software. However, the fine folks at NielsenIQ has sent us some data about Black Friday in the UK, and specifically sales of hardware.
In the UK, sales of consoles were better this year than during Black Friday 2024, with revenue up 14%, and unit sales up 7%. Nintendo Switch 2 did ok, the data firm says, but it was PS5 that was the biggest driver.
In fact, PS5 was the only console to do better this Black Friday than the previous one, with unit sales up 16% over the year before. PS5 had a 62% share of the console market during the week.
The PS5 Slim 1TB price was 21% lower compared with two weeks previously. The PS5 Slim 825gb Digital price was 34% lower than two weeks prior. And the PS5 Pro was down to £586, which is an all-time low, and it had its best week outside of its launch week.
Overall, the average price of PS5 was £340 last week, only the seventh time it’s gone below £400.
Xbox Series S and.X accounted for 10% of the market during Black Friday week. The average selling price of Xbox machines was £385, which was 8% lower than two weeks prior.
Nintendo Switch 2 took a 23% share of the market during Black Friday, which is a lower share compared with the weeks since launch. However, this is to be expected given the deals on PS5. Switch 2’s average selling price was £405 during Black Friday, which was only a slight 3% drop on two weeks ago.
Finally, Switch 1 took 5% of sales during Black Friday 25.
Elsewhere, accessories sales were down sharply by 17% in revenue compared with Black Friday 2024. This was due to a sharp drop in joypad sales (down 27%) and gaming headsets (down 28%).
VR headsets were still a popular product over Black Friday, although overall unit sales were down 7%. The Meta Quest 3S had a new low price of £229, and enjoyed its best ever sales week since launch. The PS5 VR headset also had its best week of the year (so far).
