Google JUST tried what Microsoft is wanting to do with Stadia and failed miserably. The ONLY reason Game Pass was successful (and I mean 'was' as their servers crashed from subscribers flocking to unsub when the price hike was announced) was because we could download the games and run them on OUR hardware.
If they intend to blend Windows and gaming into one living-room box that they tried back on the One, we shall see how that goes, considering there is hefty competition by Valve. If anti-cheat can be fixed to run on Linux, it's game over in my book. I'm dumping Windows and Xbox entirely outside of one machine for cases that can't be avoided.
This is something very curious about Microsoft. You can be unhappy about Windows, docs, copilot, xbox, but they always create strategically unusual situation and find themselves in a winning position.
1. Halo isn’t what it once was—it’s not even in the top five!
2. Xbox lost the console war. Phil Spencer himself even admitted that. But even with all their losses, Xbox, or Microsoft Gaming, or whatever you want to call it, could be setting themselves up for future success.
One thing’s for sure: video games (not just Xbox) are competing within a time economy. With all the entertainment options, including social video, and real-life commitments, people have less time for games (unfortunately).
Absolutely agreed with your thoughts here. Today's comments by Nadella illustrate that Microsoft plans to leverage their foothold on PC and use it to strengthen their next console. They don't plan on abandoning the race, they plan to transform it in their favour.

Good points all around, Chris.
