Good analysis. It's clear Nintendo will have to do more to push third party games to the Switch userbase. They have already done a decent job in directs in the past (like the direct where they ended with the surprise announcement of Persona 5 Royal coming to Switch). But for Switch 2 as development cycles get longer, they could serve to put even more of a spotlight on big third party games whenever they come to the system. I imagine this will make large publishers like Capcom, Sega, Bandai Namco, Konami, TakeTwo, Ubisoft, EA etc... very happy.
If the path of using big third party games to fill in the gaps in their own release schedule is what they want to pursue then transparency and co-operation will be more key for them than ever. Glad to see the console succeeding.
What is the source the for the supposed “third party publisher” quote about sales being below expectations? Is that supposed to be an anonymous source? Is there any other info about what their role is, etc?

I wonder how much Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma did. It was one of the few games that did a proper physical release.
Any data on whether Rune Factory met expectations? That was also a game that had a physical version.
