Great interview. Nice to see a renowned Lead Developer acknowledge what a few industry observers have been talking about for the last couple of years…with how long it takes to make games now, you only get so many projects in a career.

Even less when you factor in the first few games probably aren’t your dream game, whether it be due to lack of funding, time or publisher trust because you haven’t proven yourself yet.

I have had a few developers talk about the fact they might be heading towards their final few games. My chat with Peter Molyneux last year on GI was heavily about that

Fantastic interview and PSA for anyone who wants a game in Montana, that’s where Far Cry 5 takes place 😉

Really appreciate the interview. The comparison of "Red Dead... with Swords" means I'm poorly gonna add Kingdom Come to my que. Although his criticism of Hollywood seems a bit weird - would have loved to have an example or two and how that differed from, say, 30 years ago, when people said that Hollywood was "failing,” and that there were "no new ideas..." If anything, the content explosion we've seen because of the streaming wars has meant we're fairly drowning in content and IP these days. Frankly, I think that's one of the primary reasons video games have been suffering so much - we've got over 7 generations worth of content out there, and when people are faced with the too much to choose from, "paralysis of choice" sets in and they revert back to the comfort of games they already know. It's one of the reasons the most played charts are consistently full of older games; that and the social aspect of many of those games.
